Frank,
Thank you so much for helping me order my skates on the phone last week. I ordered the mustang skate package hoping to dance on skates again like I used to. We shall see. I am older now and have inherited this horrible instinct called fear. Now I am afraid of falling and the fear gets in the way.
I may get blades for the Reidell boot skate that I purchased from you last year. They just opened up an ice skating rink in my town. But they would have to play 70’s disco dance music to keep me interested. LOL
You were so helpful on the phone. I got the skates in the mail, tried them on and absolutely love them. Thanks again for your expertise. It was nice to have someone knowlegable on the other end of the phone who knows how to answer questions about skates.
One of the comments we hear often at newskates,(www.newskates.com) is my skates are slow, i need new wheels. This is one of the biggest mistakes skaters make when dealing with the problem of slow skates. The wheels could be part of the problem, but most likely the problem is with the bearings. For example, if your car is running slow, do you get new tires? NO you check the motor. In skates, the bearings are the motor that make the skates go.
So remember if your skates are slow check the bearings not the wheels.

Frank,
First website that I found that actually had any kind of information about bearings and wheels. I have not skated in years and went for the first time today and remembered why I did not like the rentals... I need new skates but I am not sure what ones would be best for me. I want something comfortable that offers support. I can get myself around but can not do any tricks( not that I would not want to learn). I am not sure what brand or model skate would be best for me. Seeing as I am just getting back into it? If you had any suggestions that would be great. Thank you for your help,
Sarah
Sarah,
Thanks for posting on our blog. depending on how much you want to spend, there are some real nice skates available. Lets get some ideas first. Do you want high top (artistic) boots or low cut (speed) boots. There are some differences between these to boots but the main difference is the Artistic boot has a higher heel and this lifts you up, some skaters without the heel get the feeling they are falling backwards. The low cut boot does come over the ankle.
Once we tell us what style of skate you like and how much you want to spend, we will give you our idea of the best skates in your price range.
Frank
Frank,
Thank you for the quick reply. I would like to spend about 100.00 to 150.00 and want to be able to get indoor and out door wheels with them. I would rather artistic skates. I hope this helps. Thank you again for your information.

Riedell and Sure Grip looking to gain and edge over one another have created some real values in skate packages for in and around $100.00. Riedell has the Angel for $99.00 and Sure Grip has the Fame Package for $89.00. Both are nice boots, man made, (and if I can side track, man made boots today are much nicer than they were even 5 years ago. They are soft and comfortable) with very good plates wheels and bearings. If you add to either package an outdoor wheels and bearings deal you can have the perfect skate for indoor and outdoor use for about $150.00. Here are the links to the skates:

Frank,
Thanks for making time for me today. Its amazing that skates have been around since the mid 1800's but ask somebody a technical question and its like talking to a deer blinded by head lights. You are the exception!!
Typically, I'm not into internet purchases, its nice to the shake the hand of the sales person that just took my wad of cash... I felt like this happened today, over the phone , pretty awesome stuff.
I have a local shop that I will go speak with this evening as I had already made the appoitment. This guy is a world class pro-figure skater that doenst seem to know squat about skates. But none the less, I'll keep my appointment and will probably call you Monday to place my order.
Customer service before the sale is non-existing today. Frank, your the exception.
thanks
